Its so crazy to think back, as I sit here ready to type from the other side. But, after a few years of walking through what I have often called our dessert place, I think its safe to say we’re officially done with that season. Sure, we still have some uncertainties and some hurdles, but who doesn’t?
God has taught us so much through our journey & I hope to be able to share it on a grander scale with y’all, one day. For now, I just wanted to give you a quick boost, a little encouragement if you are finding yourself in that desert season. If you feel like you are walking in circles, losing more of yourself everyday, losing your ability to hope. I want you to know that you can do more than just survive the trials, you can build a thriving relationship God through them. When your life is changing quicker than your mind can process, God is constant. When the pain of what you’re facing seems like it will completely and utterly overwhelm you, God is ready to offer His comfort. When nobody has answers, God is whispering “do not be afraid.”
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. -Psalm 34:18
If you are walking through a season of loss, lean on God. He doesn’t tell us that he won’t give us more than we can handle. He tells us that he is there, ready & willing to handle whatever life throws at us, in our place. You may not have any control over what is happening in your life right now, but you do have control over giving that burden to the One who has offered to carry it in your place.
Can I just tell you, for a control freak like me that teeny speck of control was SO insanely freeing. I could not control what was happening in our lives but this, this decision was MINE to make. It didn’t matter what the latest report from the doctor said. It didn’t matter that plans had changed again. It didn’t matter that we didn’t know how we were going to make ends meet. Those were things that I couldn’t control, but in giving those burdens to God, somehow I suddenly had control of the entire situation. Being able to say, and mean it whole heartedly that I had laid my burden down, I had decided that it was not mine to control, was a form of control. Does that make sense? Are there any other micro-managers out there that understand where I am coming from?
Y’all CLING to that decision, CLING to God, CLING to the freedom that comes with fully believing that he has a plan for you, for your family, a plan that might seem so full of pain right now, could be paving the road for an AMAZING redemption story. Don’t stop dreaming, don’t let fear rob your joy, find anything that you can be thankful for and then really, truly be thankful for it.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30
I pray that if you are struggling with whatever you are facing right now, that you would be honest with God. If you are angry then tell him, ask him to help you find peace. Do not let your struggles become a wedge between you and the Lord. Instead use them to draw closer to Him.
I don’t know what you are facing in your life right now, but no matter how big or how small, I would love to pray for you. Even if you just have an unspoken request, God knows what is on your heart. There is such an amazing comfort that can be found in knowing that other believers are lifting you up in prayer. No matter what you are facing, you are not alone!
